Paper Plate Mask Craft – “M” is for Mask

With a paper plate and a few basic craft supplies, kids can make this “dazzling” paper plate mask that they can really wear.

You may have heard me talking about the huge A-Z paper plate crafts round-up I’ve done.  It’s a compilation of all of the paper plate crafts we’ve done here over the years.  We have at least one craft for every letter of the alphabet.  Our paper plate mask today is our Letter M craft in the series.

Our latest paper plate creations are these simple masks.  Paper plate masks are one of those classic childhood crafts – easy to make, inexpensive, and a lot of fun for kids to personalize and decorate.  I remember making quite a few of them when I was a kid, both at home and at school.

To make a paper plate mask, you’ll need:

Making our masks:

To start, I cut a paper plate in half, and gave one half to each Hooligan.

Then, the kids held those half-plates up to their faces, and I marked the places where the eye-holes would need to be cut.  You want to make sure your child’s eyes will roughly line up with the eye-holes so they’ll be able to see out of their mask when it’s finished.

Cut out your eye-shaped holes, and begin decorating your masks!

We used acrylic craft paints to paint our paper plates, but you can use whatever paints you have on hand.

Once the paint was dry, the hooligans jazzed their masks up with feathers, gems and sparkly sequins.

You could also use stickers, glitter glue and buttons – whatever craft supplies you have on hand to make your masks fancy and ornate.

If your child wants to wear his mask, simply staple a length of elastic to each side of the mask.

If your child would prefer to hold his mask, tape a wooden chopstick (or dowel) to the backside of the paper plate like Crafts by Amanda did with her Feathered Masquerade Mask.

Fun, easy and dazzling paper plate masks for your kids to make and decorate.  Perfect Halloween, Mardi-Gras or everyday-play.
