VOCATIONAL

Easy, Healthy, 2-Ingredient Homemade Creamsicles

Make healthy homemade creamsicles that taste just like the creamsicles from your childhood! All you need is orange juice and vanilla ice cream. They’re fun and easy to make, so your kids can enjoy them all summer long, and you’ll feel good knowing they’re getting a healthy dose of vitamin C with every creamsicle they eat.

One of my favourite frozen treats has always been a creamsicle. I’ve always been crazy for anything that combines the flavours of orange and vanilla.

Traditional creamsicles that you buy in the store are wonderful – vanilla ice cream encased in a crunchy, tangy orange shell – but they’re not exactly packed with nutrition. Making homemade creamsicles is a great way to offer your kids a nutritious alternative to store-bought.

The hooligans love Freezies and Popsicles, so we often make our own. That way we can control what goes into them and make them a whole lot healthier than the frozen ice pops you buy at the store.healthy homemade creamsicleshealthy homemade creamsicles

The other day, when I was thinking up flavours to put in the ice pop molds, it occurred to me I hadn’t shared my homemade creamsicles with you before, so we set out to make a batch.

They’re super-easy to make, and oh my goodness, they taste DELICIOUS!

You’ll also love our: frozen banana ice cream, our ice cream in a can and our 3-Ingredient snow cream.

And for fun, we used our ring-pop mold (affiliate), so the kids could wear their creamsicles while they were eating them.

Let me show you how you can make a batch of your own, lickety-split!

How to Make Healthy, Homemade Creamsicles:

Scoop a little bit of vanilla ice cream into each compartment of your ice-pop mold.  I didn’t pack our ice cream in because I wanted lots of room for the orange juice to flow in and around the ice cream so it would be encased in orange, just like a real creamsicle.

Now fill your compartments with orange juice.

Isn’t this easy?  The kids can totally help you with this.

Now, nestle the ice pop holders into the molds, and pop the whole thing in the freezer.

We left our creamsicles in the freezer overnight, and the next day, to pop them out of the molds, I ran the whole mold under the tap for a few seconds to loosen them up.

Mmmm, the aroma!

Ok, just a heads up.  When you release the creamsicles from the molds, the incredible aroma of orange and vanilla was incredible.  It smelled like we were smack-dab in the middle of a creamsicle factory!

And the taste!

Mmmmm-mmmm!  So Yummy!
