Paper Plate Clock Craft – Happy Hooligans
This Paper plate clock craft is fun for kids who are learning how to tell time. It’s a great way to work on number recognition, ordering numbers and telling time. Kids can also make this clock as a daylight savings craft in spring or fall.
Yesterday, I had two hooligan grads here with me, and we were working on some crafts to add to our A-Z paper plate crafts collection.
One of my favourites was this simple paper plate clock.
A Craft That Familiarizes Kids With Analogue Clocks
Because we live in a digital age, kids today often learn how to tell time on a digital clock. More and more, we’re hearing that traditional analogue clocks are being removed from classrooms because kids don’t know how to read them.
Well, this simple clock craft familiarizes young children with the parts of an analogue clock – the minute hand and the hour hand, and the placement of the numbers on the face of the clock.
Number Recognition, and Number Ordering
Not only will your child get to learn about this kind of clock, they can also get some number recognition in as they sort and order the numbers before gluing them to the paper plate.

To Make Our Clock, You’ll Need:
Making Our Clock:
We started by dumping a big container of foam shapes, letters and numbers out on the floor, and we sifted through them until we’d found all of the numbers for our clock. That took some time, and it was a great exercise for the kindergartener.
Once we’d found all of our numbers, one hooligan painted the paper plate with acrylic craft paint while the other hooligan worked on ordering all of the numbers we’d found from 1 to 12.
The next step was to glue the numbers on the clock.
Tip: For young children who may have difficulty placing the numbers in the proper around the face of the clock, you can write them on in pencil, and your child can match the foam number up with your pencil marks, and glue them in place.
My guy used a paint brush and a small pot of glue for this step.
While he was gluing his numbers, I cut a couple of clock hands out of a piece of yellow craft foam.
When he’d glued the hands in place, we talked about what time the clock displayed.
Our paper plate clock will look so cheery on a wall in the playroom!
