Easy {Gorgeous} Lollipop Ornament for Kids to Make
These LOLLIPOP ORNAMENTS are made with just cardboard and a lolly stick, but they look good enough to eat. This is a great Christmas craft for kids of all ages – simple enough for toddlers, but older kids can get really creative with their designs.
I am beyond excited about the latest Christmas ornament we’ve made here in my daycare.
These painted lollipop ornaments top our list of easy homemade ornaments, and without a doubt they’re our yummiest looking ornaments yet. Don’t they look delicious?

These lollipops were so easy to make. but the kids got so creative with them they ended up looking just like the real thing when they were finished. They’re gorgeous!
All your kids need for this craft is a piece of cardboard, a lollypop stick, some paint and ribbon, and their creativity.
Experiment with different paint techniques! I think that’s what makes these ornaments so outstanding. They mimic the look of the big, swirly lollipops that you’d find in a candy store.

How to Make our Painted Lollipop Ornaments
Ignore the glitter in the above photo. Our lollipops were pretty enough without it, but feel free to add some to yours if you wish.
Supplies:
- thick cardboard
- acrylic craft paint
- paint brushes
- clear craft varnish
- lollipop sticks
- ribbon
- glue gun
- cord or thread for hanging
To make your painted lollipop ornament:
To start, I had the kids cut some circles out of a sturdy piece of sturdy cardboard. They traced around the bottom of drinking glass to make their circles.
Then they painted their circles to turn them into colourful lollipops.
The kids got much more creative with the painting than I’d expected. I figured they would just paint their circles, but one of the hooligans started experimenting with splatter painting, and that inspired the others to take their creativity up a notch.
She painted her circle a solid colour and then loaded her paintbrush with a generous amount of paint in a contrasting colour, and another colour, and tapped her paintbrush over the circle to get the splatter effect. She kept repeating the process, using different colours, until she was satisfied with the results.
Some of the other kids followed suit, splattering their lollipops as well, and others dragged the end of their paintbrush through their paint to give their lollies a swirled effect.
Some kids dripped and drizzled the paint onto their circles and then tilted the cardboard back and forth so the paint would run all the way to the edges of the circle.
We let the paint dry, and then we gave our lollipops a coat of clear craft varnish so the colours would really pop.
When the varnish was dry, we glued a lolly stick and a piece of colourful cord to the back of each lollipop ornament.
Then we tied a ribbon around each stick.
