Heart Handprint Valentines Cards – Happy Hooligans
Kids handprints make the shape of a heart for these easy but adorable homemade Valentine’s cards.
We have made so many easy and adorable Valentines crafts this year here in my home daycare, and today we made our final heart-craft of the season. My toddlers and preschoolers made these cute, little Handprint Hearts Valentines cards to give to their parents.

We’ve made these before, and while I don’t make a habit of repeating the same crafts year after year, these are really sweet, and most of the kids here today weren’t with us when we made them last year.
Plus, this one is worth repeating because parents love a handprint craft that immortalizes their child’s tiny handprint.
For kids, making a handprint craft is pure joy. They love rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands right into the paint, and seeing their messy hand produce a perfect imprint on the paper.
Supplies:
- paintbrush (a sponge brush works great)
- styrofoam tray or paper plate (to hold paint)
- paint (we used red and pink)
- construction paper or card stock (red, pink, white)
- scissors (a pair of normal scissors and a pair with fancy edges)
- glue stick
Instructions: Heart Handprints Valentines Card
STEP 1: First, I poured a 2 colours of paint (we used pink and red) on a styrofoam produce tray, and the kids used a sponge brush to paint one of their hands with one of the colours.
STEP 2: Then they pressed that hand to a piece of white paper.
STEP 3: Next, they painted their other hand with the other colour of paint, and pressed that to the paper, angling their hand so their fingers overlapped the fingers of the first print, and the prints from their palms would form the bumps at the top of their heart.
STEP 4: When the paint was dry, I used normal scissors to cut around the handprints.
STEP 5: Then, I cut a slightly larger heart out of coloured paper and we glued that behind the cut-out handprint heart.
STEP 6: To finish, we glued this piece to a piece of folded card stock.
Use the washing-up water for an outdoor art activity:
For some extra fun, we washed up in a bucket of soapy water, and used the pink washing-up water for an outdoor art activity.
We poured the water into some spray bottles, bundled up, and went out and made pink, snowy Valentines in our front yard.
