Plastic Easter Egg Reindeer Craft

Transform dollar store plastic Easter eggs into adorable reindeer Christmas tree ornaments with some paint and a few basic craft supplies!

I have another adorable reindeer craft to share with you!

The other day, I was looking at the Christmas bulb reindeer ornaments we made last year, it occurred to me that we could probably make something similar with a plastic Easter egg.

I knew we could paint our dollar store plastic eggs because because we did it at Easter, and the two holes in the top of the egg would be perfect for attaching some pipe cleaner antlers!

The kids and I made a bunch the other day, and they turned out so cute, I just had to share them with you.

They’re really easy to make, but you’ll want to prime your eggs first so the brown paint doesn’t scratch off. Then all you need is a few basic craft supplies.

Plastic Easter Egg Reindeer Craft

Prime Your Plastic Egg
Paint your egg with Gesso primer and allow to dry.

TIP: To paint your egg without touching it, push a wooden skewer into one of the holes in the top or bottom of the egg and hold it by the skewer when painting.
Add Antlers
When the primer is dry, pop the egg open and push a pipe cleaner down into one of the holes on the top or bottom of the plastic egg, and up through the other hole beside it. Twist the pipe cleaner antlers around your finger to curl them.

NOTE: Depending on what shape you want your reindeer’s head to be, will determine whether you put the antlers on the top or bottom of the egg
Paint Your Egg
Paint your egg with the brown paint and allow to dry. If you need to coats of brown to cover up the primer, let the first coat dry before applying the second coat.

TIP: You can help the paint dry quickly if you give it a blast with a hairdryer.
Add the Reindeer’s Face
Glue a red pom pom nose on the front of your plastic egg Then glue a couple of googly eyes above the nose.

We used a low-heat glue gun for this because my gang loves using glue guns. Liquid glue will work, but it will require a longer drying time.
Add Extras if you Wish
At the last minute, we thought it would be cute to add a little bow to the bottom of our reindeer ornament. You could add a decorative button or a small jingle bell as well.
Add a Thread for Hanging
Knot a piece of metallic thread around one of the antlers and make a loop for hanging your ornament.
