September in Review – Adventures in a Messy Life

Deep and very dramatic sigh. It is October 9 and I am FINALLY starting to write this. I just am a mess this year.
I may bother to add affiliate links, in reality I kind of just want to get this written.
Week 1

Okay, the first giant picture, I kind of don’t like the picture because I am super sun-burned and I feel like my forehead is huge, but that’s my super cool new sweater birthday present from Tara, so I took a picture to share with her. I made a mistake the day before and when I was at the Not Back to School party and forgot to put on suncscreen when I went to go talk to some people over in the pool. I thought I was just going in to dip in the water and cool off, but I ended up staying there for an hour, and got a terrible burn. It was quite annoying.
The next picture is of the place where I’m volunteering. It’s called Academy 4, which is a group that does classes with 4th grade kids, and I’m running an Investigations Club for them which will have a murder mystery club, and they’ll be solving a mystery and then mentoring a student.
And the final picture is from our Sunday School lesson on the 10 Commandments. I challenged the kids to rephrase them in their own words and this is the result they came up with. It’s an interesting idea to see what they come up with and what they is the big idea of that lesson.
Books read:
- Way of Kings– Superman is leading a Stromlight Archive campaign, so I wanted to understand the world a little bit, and I read the first book in the series, I hadn’t realized just HOW LONG the books are. I knew they got longer, but hadn’t realized the first book is 1000 pages.
- Augmented– I need to pick up the last book as a hardback and get it signed for Superman, this will let him have all three signed.
Week 2

Ha ha ha ha, I totally missed there was a sunglass sticker on the collage to delete.
Okay, this area in the kitchen desperately needed to be cleaned. There were piles and random debris that I really wanted out of there, and I FINALLY got it cleaned. So I had to get that picture and make sure everyone knew it.
Next is this hilarious picture of Leezard asleep, wrapped up in the chairs.
Leezard has had a UTI, and we had to go to the vet to check on that. After the appointment, she was in a mood to check out all the stuff around it, so I got this hilarious picture of that.
Actually, getting the samples needed for that was rather odd to do, as I had to follow her as I took her on a walk and make sure to stick a cup underneath her, which was the oddest thing ever to do. Later on, we had to come back for another appointment where the vet tech had to get a sample, and she followed along behind with a ladle. That was just the oddest and weirdest image to watch.
Books read:
- So, I spent much of September rereading the Magiford series.
- I won’t bother listing out each book as each of the mini-series within is 3 books
- and there are 5 series out currently
- So I just linked to the one landing page
Week 3

Mom and I went to the theaters to see Sight and Sound Noah, which was a lot of fun. I haven’t seen it before and it had some fun concepts it explored in their production.
Then the next picture is of my friend’s homeschool library that she continues to work on. I helped organize her theology, parenting, and homeschooling books that day. It was an interesting conglomeration and allowed us to talk through various theories of sorting and what to do when someone might have decent theology at one point in their life but later on have bad theology that becomes a problem.
And the final picture is of a skirt I was cutting out of some old fabric, and I noticed I had accidentally stabbed myself with a pin, but never even noticed it until I saw the blood on my fabric, much to my chagrin. Sigh, stupid annoying pin.
Week 4

Once I figured out the correct sizing, I cut it out in my fashion fabric and tried out putting flowers across the skirt. I liked it, so I set about hand-sewing the flowers on. I’ve got them all sewn on, now I just need to finish sewing together the skirt.
We unloaded all the bookshelves and everything from The Artist’s old room so I can get started painting in there. It’s amazing how much work it is to get that room cleared out and ready to paint. I had not realized JUST how much work that was. There is lots of little bits and pieces aside from the actual furniture so that was another days’ work, so while I thought I would have the room already painted by now, I do not.
It probalby hasn’t helped that I’ve had several migrained since then, part of why I haven’t written much recently. So many stupid migraines.
Actually that was one of the things on the very last days of the month I should write about.
I had an appointment with the eye doctor for a check to see if I have glaucoma because I’m at risk of getting it early, and I may or may not be showing a chance of early signs, so I get to go back in two months to take the tests again. But, between all of the weather changes AND the tests I had to take for the glaucoma test (one included a photo of my eyes with lots of flashing lights) and I’ve had a migraine off and on since then.
I’ve started reading This Present Darkness for October’s Lorehaven Book Quest. I read it back in high school or college, and it’s a classic of Modern Christian fiction. I wanted to see what my opinions would be about it as a full adult. So far I’m really enjoying it and it’s got so many interesting ideas, and some very enjoyable prose.
And then that final picture is when the mixer just randomly fell apart on me as I was making some dough for noodles. It was so frustrating. I put it back together, and it’s happened to me one other time since then, and I’m trying to figure out how I can make sure it doesn’t happen quite so often.
But, that’s our September, now I”m going to head to either take a nap or a bath because I am just not feeling all that great.
